When you hear the word Music it is just not a crowded concert or a movie song or lullaby. Music is the birds chirping, the song of the wind, tune of the running river. Every religion, man, woman, people of all ages, haters also have loved, benefited from music. What if today is the last day of music?

Last day of Kausalya supraja of MS Subbulakshmi?

Last day of Latha Mangeshkar’s Allah tero naam?

Last day of Jingle bells?

Early morning at 6.00 A.M.

Sun rising beautifully, every ray of light is acquiring the earth inch by inch, birds getting ready to leave their nests and fly. My alarm vibrated and I woke up. There is pin-drop silence. Oh! I heard something, I realized, it was the cycle bell of the milkman. I went near the window, that’s when the sunshine hits my face, I open and rub my eyes for clearer vision.

Ah! beautiful, yet so different from every day I recognized. Birds were flying in a line. I saw. I just saw them I didn’t hear them singing. My mom was doing pooja, reading Bhajagovindam moodamate, reading not singing!

I finished my morning routine and got ready as we were going to watch a movie. Though I had watched it with my friends already, I was going along with my parents again. It was a nice movie, the emotional drama of mother-son sentiment, everyone in the theatre cried while getting out that day, I kind of liked it. So, I agreed to watch it the second time. Went to the theatre. But, when the hero’s mother died without seeing him, nobody cried including me, unlike the other day. Oh my God!!! Then I realized that there was no background music, no songs at all. What is Happening?

For an emotion to reach audience music plays a major part. Music enhances an actor's performance hence elevates a scene to the next level. Imagine dancing without music! Everything is so unreal, unimaginable. Music is one or the other way part of everything. It’s like salt, its presence might not be felt, but the absence ruins it all.

Music is beyond just a hobby, concerts, and movies. Music has healing powers. Many Psychologists prescribe patients to listen to good music. People who listen to music in the major part of their day have a healthier, stress-free mind and body. Singers develop good lung capacity as well. So many benefits.

Did we lose it all before we could recognize it?

No one can avoid being. If there is no music from today, we have to accept it. But, being a musician myself, just to think of a life without music is so mind-boggling.

This flow of thoughts made me shiver and sweat, my blood pressure increased, my heart started to beat faster, amidst this I heard a sound, disturbing my thoughts and paining my ears, then I realized, that was my alarm and then I opened my eyes hearing loud on the player “Kausalya supraja Rama purva sandhya pravarthathe” M S Subbulakshmi singing and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Quick question: How would it affect your life if there was no music from tomorrow? Let me know.
